READY FOR PRACTICE

BRING YOUR OWN GROOVE

MIDI + backing audio.

Load a MIDI drum part and its matching recording. Save on this device for local practice, or sign in as a teacher and choose Publish to school to share the files and sync settings with every student.

No MIDI selected

3. Add backing audio optional

Optional · MP3, WAV, or another browser-supported audio file

Positive offsets delay the recording; negative offsets skip its intro. MIDI speed adjusts the notes to the recording while keeping the recording’s pitch and speed unchanged.

Move mappings and sync settings to another computer. Bring the original MIDI and audio separately.

Choose a MIDI file or try the sample song.

MAKE IT YOURS

Your drum controls.

USB drumkit

Keyboard controls stay available. Connect your TD-17, then allow MIDI devices when Chrome asks.

Connect your kit by USB, then allow MIDI access.

Strike a pad after connecting to see it here.

Leave this off to hear the TD-17’s own sounds. Backing music and the metronome still play from the computer.

Check or change pad assignments

Choose Learn pad, then strike it once. Repeat for rims or cymbal edges. Learning moves that note from its previous drum. Select × to ignore a note.

Pad assignments save in this browser on this device.

TD-17 USB setup and troubleshooting

Use the module’s USB COMPUTER port. For MIDI input without a Roland driver, set SETUP → USB → USB Driver Mode to GENERIC, then turn the module off and on. VENDOR also works when Roland’s Windows driver is installed. Generic mode sends pad hits, but does not send backing audio over USB.

Use Chrome on Windows or Chromebook and the HTTPS app address (or localhost). If no device appears, check the USB cable, close other music apps using the kit, then try Connect drumkit again. School browser restrictions may require an administrator.

Leave delay correction at 0 to start. Positive values subtract device delay from measured hits. This is a manual adjustment, not an automatic calibration.

Match rate = hits ÷ (expected notes + extra hits). Timing averages use matched hits only. Opposite timing errors can cancel; average error shows their size.

BUILT FOR THE PRACTICE ROOM

A starting groove.

A browser prototype for Sierra Charter School. Original exercises and synthesized instrument sounds; no downloads or accounts are needed for local practice.

Built with open source

Keyboard input and control ID helpers are adapted from SightKick by Anton Korolkov, under the MIT license. MIDI file decoding uses midi-file by Carter Thaxton (MIT license). The timing engine, sounds, exercises, and interface are new.

Keyboard and shared practice

This version includes teacher/student accounts, shared school songs and saved progress when school storage is enabled. Local practice includes 24 original tracks, section repeats, drum focus, tempo building, sheet music for imported MIDI, and backing-audio sync tools. Match a beat or try a suggested alignment, then preview it before playing. USB drumkit input includes a device picker, live pad check and learnable pad assignments. Keyboard and on-screen controls stay available. The Keyboard area adds pitched MIDI practice and a note highway. Jam session lets a teacher assign two students, start a shared count-in and review separate progress and reports. Physical school-device synchronization is the next classroom trial.

Practice tips

Use wired headphones or speakers for timing practice. Some keyboards miss certain three-key combinations; change keys if a pad doesn’t light up. Touch input is useful for trying sounds; use a keyboard or USB drumkit for timing assessment.
